Tourist information
The tourist information centre and the town of Brakel's wedding room are located in the Haus des Gastes administration building. The adult education centre, the youth music centre and the Brakel town museum are also housed here.
Excavations in 1982 uncovered parts of an older massive stone building from the 13th/14th century inside the front building. Together with the Alte Waage and the town hall opposite, the building forms a typical medieval ensemble.

In later times, it was probably used as a guild house, after which it served as a farmhouse. The year 1571 highlighted on the front indicates that it was rebuilt after one of the town's many fires. In 1769, the house is owned by the mayor of Brakel, Ludovici, and is used commercially (barn, pigsty and sheepfold in the rear courtyard). Between 1796 and 1805, the rear half-timbered building was added. The beam that is visible today was uncovered in 1982. WILHELMUS LUDOVICI GOGRAFF ANNO 1673, later owned by the Ludovici and Carl Brüning families. Renovation of the entrance portal in 1820. FRIEDERICUS EISENLE JOSEPHA BRÜNING 1820 remains in the family until its acquisition by the Jewish merchant Salomon Lobbenberg (1893), who sells it on to the merchant Meyer Rothenberg in 1897. Expropriated as Jewish property in 1943, transferred to the town of Brakel in 1944. After being returned by the town of Brakel in 1981, the building was legally reacquired and remodelled into the Haus des Gastes.
